This is a process in which the solute in a solution changes to solid state (crystals). Thermal energy is associated to this change in state, which is produced when the solute becomes instable in the solvent. Crystallization can arise due to a change in temperature (heating or cooling) that decreases its solubility, due to the effect of over-concentration (evaporating the solvent) or due to the addition of a product to the solution that decreases its solubility. Solutions to have undergone precipitation due to crystallization are known as mother liquor
